Ten exciting summer days in Grinsby (GB) by Gaspard, 5°2
During my summer holidays, I was in a colony in England for ten days. I went to Grimsby in the north of London.
I took the train from Lyon to Lille, and there, I took the eurostar to London. In London, I rejoined the rest of the colony, and we took the bus to the Saint-Jame’s school,
in Grimsby.
In Grimsby, there is a swimmong pool, with two diving-boards, and a karting. I did kart in the rain, it was very funny.
In Saint-Jame’s school, they are many bedrooms, with a bathroom, and many stairs. There is a ping-pong table, a playground and a big garden.
In the colony, we were 27 children, 3 French monitors and 3 English monitors. We spoke only english with the English monitors.
Every day, we woke up at 8 o’clock. We had a braekfast
at quarter past 8.
Then at 9, we had English activities : we were two groups by the English level : we made many games but we must speak only english.
At noon, we had lunch, then a rest-time untill
3 o’clock. During that time, I made a video-game with “game-maker”. It’s a little character, with many monsters. (My game will be very soon on
the Mrs Bianchi’s blog)
Here it is genius but don't call me a "bouse" again...

In the afternoon, sometimes we went to the swimming-pool or to karting. But most of the times, we had games of basket-ball or rugby, many “games-animations” between several teams.
At 6:00pm, we had dinner. It’s much earlier than in France.
At night, we had night-activities : society-games, theater, casino, karnival, dance-party... it was funny.
But we also visited two cities : Durham and Newcastle.
We took the bus to Durham, for the shopping and visiting the cathedral.
Near Durham, there is a station with Harry Potter’s train. It is red and black as in the film.
In Durham, there are a lot of shops : game-shop, book-shop, ice-cream-shop, clothes-shop... But there is also a cathedral. We went to visit it, it’s a very old, big and famous cathedral. In it, there are many people and a restaurant. After the visit, we came back to Grimsby.
In Newcastle, there is a big castle with a lot of
activities (labyrinth of mirrors, big chess...) I had a game of chess. I did the labyrinth with my friends. In it, there are o lot of mirrors, a very ugly thing : “Gilbert”, the
monster of the labyrinth, and many skeletons. In the castle there is a shop too, with many objects. In the castle, there are birds ( Buzzards, Falcons... ). Every
day, there is the realese of buzzards.
During that trip, the most interesting things I discovered are
:
- in Englang, the food is very different from France: every day, we had potatoes, chips, hamburgers, hot-dogs, ketchup..... it’s not very good and all the time, it’s very fat.
- They eat very early in the afternoon,
- The money is not the “euro” but the “pound” and it’s complicated
- They drive on the left side of the road
- And it rains most of the time!
It was a nice trip. I met very funny people and I think it’s interesting to see others' ways of life and ....
I improve (a little) my english.
