Describing activities :

 

Simple Present vs. Present Continuous tense :

 

In the bathroom :

 

  • What ARE you doING ?

  • I'M washING the dishes in the bathtub...(the dishes = la vaisselle / the bathtub = la baignoire)

  • That's strange...DO you USUALLY WASH the dishes in the bathtub ?

  • No, I NEVER WASH the dishes in the bathtub but I'M washING the dishes in the bathtub today !

  • Why ARE you doING that ?

  • Because my sink is broken.(a sink = un évier / broken = cassé)

  • I'm sorry to hear that...(= je suis désolée d'entendre cela...)

 

In the kitchen :

 

  • Hi, Tim !

  • Oh, hi, Charles !

  • Tim, what ARE you doING ?

  • I'M washING my kitchen floor !

  • But you'RE usING ordinary soap ! (soap = savon)

  • So ? I ALWAYS USE ordinary soap. DOn't you USE ordinary soap when you wash your kitchen floor ?

  • Never ! I USE Sparkle ! (sparkle = éteinceler, briller) Here Tim, I HAVE some with me. Let's try it on your floor right now !

  • Woau ! Look at this floor ! It'S shinING ! (shine = briller)

  • It ALWAYS shineS with Sparkle !

  • No more ordinary soap for me...

    Floors ALWAYS SHINE with SPARKlE !

 

In the office :

 

  • What'S …... doING ?

  • She'S workING late !

  • WorkING late ? Why IS she doING that ?

  • It's Monday ! She ALWAYS workS late on Monday !

 

In the kitchen :

 

  • What'S Bob doING?

  • He'S cookING spaghetti !

  • CookING spaghetti ? Why IS he doING that ?

  • It's Wednesday ! He ALWAYS cookS spaghetti on Wednesday !

 

Outside :

 

  • What'S Carry doING ?

  • He'S bathING his cat !

  • BathING his cat ? Why IS he doING that ?

  • It's Friday ! He ALWAYS bathes his cat on Friday !
