GAM048.jpgWe are very lucky this year ! We've got an English boy, David, in our class. Actually, he is both French and English. His mum is English and his dad is French. His grandparents -on his mother's side- live in the South-West of England, near Exeter, in county Devon. David spent his last Christmas holidays there with his family. In Dunsford, David took pictures of the village, the street decorations...Back to school, he told us all about christmas traditions in England and made an interesting slideshow. He's been very generous too : he offered us some crackers (look at the album on the blog ) and had us taste some typical English food (his friends still remember the Christmas cake !). Here is David's presentation. Thank you David. Write your commentaries at the bottom of the article.

My Christmas holidays

My grandparents'village is here.

Image:EnglandDevon.pngIt’s called Dunsford and it’s a typical little village near Exeter in the South West of England.

At Christmas the first thing you see when you arrive are the decorations!

At home, there are plenty of Christmas cards on the mantelpiece and the walls.

Outdoors, there are a lot of gigantic decorations in the town and especially in the main street of Exeter .

Now let’s talk about FOOD!!!!

There were plenty of different sorts of food, like turkey, Christmas pudding and Christmas cake, some jelly, mince pies, etc. Sometimes it’s good (but sometimes it’s bad!!!). After our Christmas dinner, we pull crackers, which make a bang and have jokes, toys and paper hats in them.

My grandparents’ house is very typical of Devon . In the village there is of course a PUB (my mum’s favourite place because of the beer, and my favourite place because of the pool table and the salt and vinegar crisps). There’s also the post office, the church and the village shop.

The roofs of some of the cottages in the village are made out of “thatch”, a kind of straw.

Cracker joke:

Why can’t you play cards in the jungle? Because of the cheetahs!!!

(cheetah = guépard, cheat = tricheur)
